Number one in 2023

End 2022, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert concluded its second season in the World Tour in fifth place in the World Ranking. This team classification, which is updated and published by the Union Cycliste Internationale each week, makes the sum of the points of the ten best riders of each team.

With tenth place in the ranking from 2020 to 2022, the team qualified for World Tour status in the next three seasons. In 2022 Intermarché-Circus-Wanty was also represented for the first time in the top ten of the individual World Ranking thanks to Alexander Kristoff.

“What a road we have taken! Just exceptional! For a story which is still work in progress, that we are still writing. In the beginning we had to fight to find riders and sponsors. Now many good riders come to us… 2022 was an exceptional season. In terms of results we did better than the previous years and we even surpassed our goals. We showed great regularity all season long, with particularly good periods in the spring and autumn. In the battle for the World Tour positions we reached the safe zone earlier as predicted, enabling us to continue building our project and to look ahead to the three next years in the World Tour in a serene way.”

This progression continued the next season. For the first time in its history on this Tuesday January 31st 2023, the team of Jean-François Bourlart climbed to the lead of the UCI World Ranking after a blistering season start with victories of Kobe Goossens and Rui Costa on Mallorca, a second place for Hugo Page in the Cadel Road Race and a seventh place for Sven Erik Bystrøm in the Tour Down Under.

“This 31st of January 2023 was a very special moment for our project! For the first time in its history, our World Team was in the lead of the UCI World Ranking. It was an extraordinary achievement of which we never thought it would be possible. I'm thinking of all people involved since the launch of the amateur club VC Ath since 1974 to reach this remarkable milestone today. It was a fantastic reward for the team of 105 devoted people, both riders and staff, working day and night. We were incredibly proud of this achievement, even though this position was only provisionally. We stayed humble and continued to work hard for the future of our project, whilst enjoying this historical moment to the fullest.”
