Lorenzo Rota wins the Sazka Tour

Two days after his first professional success on top of Pustevny, Lorenzo Rota won the general classification of the Sazka Tour thanks to a third place in the fourth and final stage.

The leader of the general classification with a one second advantage on his nearest competitor Charmig brilliantly took on the challenge by winning a precious bonus second in the first intermediate sprint after 5 kilometer.

IWG then filtered the breakaway attempts until a group of thirteen attackers without a danger for the yellow jersey was formed. In the end, two survivors of this leading group sprinted for the stage win.

Behind these men, Lorenzo Rota defeated his GC contenders after reacting to their attacks during the four laps on the technical and hilly circuit in Šternberk. In this way, Rota won both the individual classification and the points classification.

His teammates Jan Hirt (11th), Domenico Pozzovivo (12th) and Rein Taaramäe (15th) accompany him in the top 15 of the general classification, enabling IWG to win the team classification. Jan Hirt concludes a fruitful week on home soil with the white jersey of best Czech rider.

« First of all I want to thank each of my six teammates, because they worked hard for four days to enable me to win the final classification. We expected to be attacked in this stage, especially on the hilly and fast final circuit with some cobble sections. The composition of the early breakaway was good for us, we could give them some freedom. I then had to react to several attacks on the final circuit. I had the legs to attack myself on the final climb, but I chose to play it safe and wait for the final sprint on cobbles. And in the end it was a good strategy to secure the overall win. »
