Tro Bro Léon

Brittany at its best

It was in rainy weather conditions that the seven riders of Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux had to cover the 33 kilometer of unpaved roads in the Tro Bro Léon (1.Pro), one day after their strong collective performance and second place of Alexander Kristoff in the GP du Morbihan.

All seven riders were part of the peloton at the start of the fifth race hour behind an early breakaway of four riders. Especially Baptiste Planckaert and Dimitri Claeys raced aggressively and joined a counterattack of 20 riders with 30 kilometer to go.

The selection continued until Planckaert joined the race winning move, but eventually punctured, just like Claeys. The Belgian duo continued its battle together, crossing the finish line in fifteenth and sixteenth place respectively.

"We were very excited and ambitious for this special race, boosted by a strong collective performance the day before in Plumelec. Everything went according to plan with all riders reaching the final without troubles. But just like all teams on this kind of demanding courses we were not spared of crashes and punctures and we were just unlucky that this misfortune occurred in the final with punctures of Planckaert and Claeys and crashes of Claeys and Kristoff as they were racing for the victory. Luckily all of them were able to reach the finish line, I wish them a fast recovery."
