Planckaert (6th) excels in the Queen Stage around Mont Cassel

Mont Cassel had to be covered sixteen times during the queen stage of 184 kilometer between the famous velodrome in Roubaix and the last passage on the climb in the Dunkirk Four Day (2.Pro) this Saturday.

Behind the early breakaway, which was formed in two times, the peloton skimmed lap after lap. Several counterattacks involving among others Hugo Page and Baptiste Planckaert tried to bridge to the leaders, but it was not until Dimitri Claeys counterattacked with 18 kilometer to go that two riders from the peloton managed to make it to the front of the race.

The former winner of the Dunkirk Four Day joined the race lead with 10 kilometer to go, but in the end it was the reduced peloton that battled for the stage win.  Thanks to a sixth place in the queen stage, Baptiste Planckaert climbed to fifth place in the provisional classification. French neopro Hugo Page will start the final stage to Dunkirk in fourteenth position in the general classification.
