Etoile de Bessèges

Zimmermann fights back after his crash

After his unfortunate start to the Etoile de Bessèges, which saw him crash at 60 km/h just as the echelons formed on the nervous opening stage, Georg Zimmermann led the team on the explosive finish in Rousson. A calmer race scenario developed and an early break of four riders held the lead until the flanks of the last categorized climb at 30 kilometers from the finish. An intense battle for positions took place in the peloton on the approach towards the Plateau de Castellas (1.6 km at 6,4%), and the German crossed the line in 23rd place.

Tomorrow, the riders will race around the city of Bessèges, in a hilly terrain of 155 km with four categorized climbs.
