Famenne-Ardenne Classic

Dimitri Claeys wants to conclude on a high

Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert will participate in the penultimate Walloon race of 2022 this Sunday. The World Team will line up for the Famenne Ardenne Classic with the previous winner Dimitri Claeys.

The parcours of this fourth edition around Marche-en-Famenne starts with a 114 kilometer loop through the Luxembourg province containing the Barrière de Champlon, Ortho, Nisramont and Warisy climbs.

The peloton will then start the three local laps with the Côte de Roy (2,7km à 4,9%). The top of the third and last passage is situated 14 kilometer before the finish in the Avenue de la Toison d’Or.

Next to the winner of the previous edition Dimitri Claeys, team Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert will be represented by Biniam Girmay, Hugo Page, Baptiste Planckaert (2nd in 2019), Taco van der Hoorn, Kévin Van Melsen and Loïc Vliegen. These seven riders will race under the direction of Aike Visbeek and Steven De Neef.

« Since the birth of my daughter on September 19th, I am full motivation for the three last races of my career. The first one is the Famenne Ardenne Classic, where I took my most recent victory. I still remember how cold I was halfway through the race because of the extremely bad autumn weather. Despite this, I managed to warm up my body and escape in the final with Baptiste Planckaert and two others. It was actually the only time that the race didn't end with a group sprint. Taking into account the dry weather forecast of this Sunday, a group sprint will again be the most probable outcome. The Côte de Roy is not too steep and relatively far from the finish. No matter the scenario, we've got chances on the victory, for example with Biniam Girmay. With four victories and several prestigious podiums we've got an impressive track record on Walloon soil this season. Our goal is to conclude on a high in Marche-en-Famenne and in Binche-Chimay-Binche! »
