Zimmermann: “start my campaign of end of the season classics on home soil”

The traditional classic on the 1st of May, Eschborn-Frankfurt (1.WT, 19/09), will be ridden this Sunday in Hessen. Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert will participate for the ninth time in the classic which is since 2017 part of the World Tour. A lovely mix between city and nature is presented to the riders in the 58th edition, because a big part of the race takes place in the Taunus mountain range north of the big city.

The first 15 kilometer of the race of 187,5 kilometer with over 3000 meter of climbing will bring the riders from Eschborn to the finish line in front of concert hall Alte Oper for the first time. A recon of the local lap is planned before heading north-west towards the Feldberg (11km at 4.7%). After conquering this highest point of the middle mountain range, the Ruppertshain (2x) (1.3km at 8.6%), Mammolshain (4x) (2.3 km at 8.2%) and the Billtalhöhe (2.6 km at 6.2%) have to be climbed. The passage through the Taunus mountains will certainly cause damage, but 40 kilometer are left for the sprinter’s teams to reorganize. At the end of two and a half laps through the centre of Frankfurt am Main, it will be know whether a new sprinter can be added to the list of honor.

After their podium spots at their national championship and top 10 finishes in the Tour of Germany, German riders Jonas Koch and Georg Zimmermann will compete one last time in their home country this season in Eschborn Frankfurt, where Andrea Pasqualon, Baptiste Planckaert and Pieter Vanspeybrouck already collected excellent results. Pasqualon travels from Italy with Norwegian rider Odd Christian Eiking, compatriots Simone Petilli and Lorenzo Rota and sports director Valerio Piva, where the last named rider finished in the top 5 of both the Giro della Toscana and the Coppa Sabatini.

« I have the chance to be a part of the very versatile line up, able to perform in any race scenario. Both for a bunch sprint or more selective race we've got several cards to play. It will be a special day for me, as always when I get to race in my home country. It was in this event that I participated to my first World Tour race, in 2017. Eschborn-Frankfurt is my first race in my campaign of end of the season classics in which I want to shine! »
