Gran Piemonte

6th for Madis Mihkels

At the age of only 19, young Estonian rider Madis Mihkels received the total confidence of the team and could sprint for the win in the Classic Gran Piemonte this Thursday, on a completely renewed parcours between Omegna and Beinasco.

The trainee managed to stay in touch with the peloton on top of the climb Il Pilonetto, the unique difficulty in the second race half, where several sprinters were dropped.

Rein Taaramäe took command of the peloton, which was reduced to only 40 riders, to impede the larger chasing group to make its return in the front.

The first group won the battle thanks to the pulls of Rein Taaramäe and Madis Mihkels sprinted for the victory after a lead out of Jan Bakelants. Two weeks after his fourth place at the U23 World Championships, Mihkels sprinted to sixth in a race of the Pro Series level.
