In the last straight line towards the fifth and last Monument of the season, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert will be at the start of three Italian semi classics in the neighboring regions Lombardia and Piemonte. For the second time in its history, the team will participate to Tre Valli Varesine (1.Pro, 5/10) on Tuesday, à Milano-Torino (1.Pro, 6/10) the next day and Gran Piemonte (1.Pro, 7/10) on Thursday.
The Gran Piemonte is known for its variety in parcours over the years, and this season’s trajectory of 168 kilometer between Rocca Canavese and Borgosesia doesn’t visit the neighboring Alps. The only categorised difficulty is the climb La Serra (6.5km at 5.2%) after 50 kilometer. In this way, the organization chose for a less difficult parcours than the years before, with a profile pretty similar to the edition of 2015 when Jan Bakelants won. This Thursday, the Belgian rider will again be present, next to French riders Jérémy Bellicaud and Théo Delacroix, Eritrean rider Biniam Girmay, Dutch trainee Stijn Daemen and Italian sprinter Riccardo Minali.
