For the third consecutive year, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux managed to fininish on the podium of the Grand Prix Marcel Kint (1.1).
Despite the addition of a double passage on the Paterberg and the Old Kwaremont to the parcours, this edition was once more decided in a sprint at the end of the 200 kilometer race in the streets of Zwevegem.
Thanks to the work of Kévin van Melsen, Dimitri Claeys, Corné Van Kessel and Baptiste Planckaert,sprinter Gerben Thijssen was in the mix for the victory in the final straight. He was led out by Boy van Poppel and sprinted to third, taking his fifth podium of the season in one month.
« The past week in the Antwerp Port Epic, the Circuit de Wallonie and today's GP Marcel Kint I confirmed that I made a step forward and that I can play a role in the final of difficult classics. In general, I'm satisfied about my race and my result. However, I could have managed the sprint better to finish closer to Arnaud De Lie. I made a mistake with 500 meter to go, which almost resulted in a crash a little later. These errors are part of my learning process and I'll definitely do it better next time. I want to thank my teammates for their full confidence in my capabilities! »
