Münsterland Giro

Zimmermann again among the best riders on home soil

Because of the autumn weather circumstances many cycling races organized on this 3rd of October will go in the history books as epic editions. Also the race scenario of this sixteenth organization of the Münsterland Giro (1.Pro, 3/10) between Enschede in the Netherlands and Münster in Germany was atypical, because a traditional bunch sprint was avoided with the help of the strong wind and rain.

Halfway through the race, some teams made use of the five hills to split the peloton in several groups. A first echelon joined the early breakaway of seven riders, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert took its responsibility in the chase behind. With an ultimate effort, Georg Zimmermann tried to bridge to the leaders. The 23 year old eventually had to settle with 11th place. Mark Cavendish took advantage of the numerical dominance of his team in the front and took the victory in Münster.
