Paris-Tours to conclude the season & the career of Dimitri Claeys

Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux will conclude its road season this Sunday in the 116th edition of Paris-Tours (1.Pro), which is also the last race of Dimitri Claeys as a professional cyclist.

The future sports director of the World Team will be accompanied by Hugo Page, who’s born in start city Chartres, Sven Erik Bystrøm, Tom Devriendt, Andrea Pasqualon (8th in 2021 & 2017), Baptiste Planckaert and Taco van der Hoorn (9th in 2018).

The formula of the classic remains unchanged since the introduction of vineyard paths in 2018. Thus ten non-asphalted roads have to be covered in the final 70 kilometer of the 213 kilometer race, combined with a rapid succession of short hills. The last one of this series is the Côte de Rochecorbon, leading to 10 flat kilometers in the direction of the finish line in Tours.

« This is it, on Sunday I'll say goodbye to my career as a professional cyclist. It will be a special event for me, however, I'll tackle this race as I would usually do for Paris-Tours. I mean, I'll prepare it as good as possible and together we'll try to achieve the best possible result, just like we brilliantly did last Thursday with Alexander Kristoff's fourth place in Paris-Bourges. The race is 213 kilometer, but with mostly straight lines we'll arrive quite quickly in the vineyards. The final will be intense, but we can do well with our team if we can be spared of bad luck. » « My younger brother Arno will also conclude his season this Sunday in the prestigious U23 version of Paris-tours, accompanied by several future riders of our new Continental Development team. I follow this age category for a longer time already, so the last couple of months I assisted Kévin Van Melsen as good as possible with the composition of his roster. My mission to pass on my experience to the young talents of the Continental and World Team is something I appreciate now already. But before I fully dive into my new function as a sports director, I will stay concentrated on my cycling job until I cross the finish line. In presence of my parents I will symbolically pass the torch to my young brother, who's becoming a professional cyclist this winter. »
