Bretagne Classic - Ouest France

A crash with 3km to go deters the chances of Girmay

Everything started well at the Bretagne Classic – Ouest France (1.UWT) this Sunday. Belgian rider Quinten Hermans was at the start of his last road race of the season before joining Tormans Cyclo Cross Team at its pre season training camp and joined the early breakaway of four riders. The leaders escaped after 10 kilometer and gained a maximal advantage of 6 minutes halfway through the race.

The breakaway was divided by two as a consequence of the succession of climbs, and Hermans lead the race until 45 kilometer before the finish. That was also the moment the favorites chose to open the final in the peloton with Biniam Girmay Hailu and Baptiste Planckaert. After the Pont Neuf, the Eritrean rider was still present in the main group behind a new leading trio and was ready to sprint for 4th place, when he was caught in a crash 3 kilometer before the finish line in Plouay which deterred the chances of the team directed by sports director Frédéric Amorison.
