Biniam Girmay, who was second in 2020 and 2021, played again a major role thanks to the support of his teammates, who controlled the race on a difficult parcours with over 3500 meter of climbing.
The World Team took responsibility in the pursuit behind the early breakaway, after counterattacks with Zimmermann and Peák.
In the end, a group of fifteen riders survived the last of eight climbs on the parcours, which brought them straight to the finish in Pontarlier. Girmay finished fourth and Peák ninth behind two attackers who anticipated the sprint.
