Biniam Girmay grabs 7th place in selective race

One day after winning Classic Grand Besançon thanks to an impressive performance from 21 year-old Biniam Girmay Hailu, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux vowed to repeat the feat this Saturday on the Tour du Jura Cycliste (1.1). The second of the three one day races in East of France featured a more demanding course from the day before however, although most of the peloton had remained reasonably unchanged.

In the first hour of the race, a big battle to create the breakaway took place, which saw Alexander Evans & local hero Théo Delacroix get involved. The definite move was established afterwards, with 7 riders, and the riders lead by Frédéric Amorison took charge of the pursuit along with the other French armadas.

The front group displayed great resistance despite the selective course, and it is not until the Côte de Montciel & Côte de Mancy, included in the final 10 kilometers, that everybody would be brought back. Benefitting from great assistance from Jérémy Bellicaud, Biniam Girmay could resist in pursuit behind a group of 6 climbers that broke away on the slopes of Mancy, reaching 20%. In the end, the man from Erytrea took 7th place after winning the sprint in the peloton, 23 seconds behind winner Cosnefroy.
