Minali: “Impatient for the first sprint battle”

The Tour of Spain (2.WT, 14/08-5/09) was opened this Saturday with a prologue in the steep streets in Burgos, with a climb towards the Castillo and a fast final. The heat (39 degrees) surrounding the cathedral of Burgos didn’t bother the favorites, who started at the end of the afternoon when the sun went down. Olympic champion Primoz Roglic won, with Louis Meintjes going 39 seconds less fast than the stage winner.

I had a pretty good feeling during this event against the clock. Time trialling will never be my speciality, but it was good to start with. I came to this Vuelta with a good preparation, better than before the Giro, with an altitude camp and competition at the Tour de l'Ain. The platform of sprinters is maybe less important than in Italy, but guys like Philipsen, Jakobsen or Démare came here with a good sprint train and are serious candidates for the victory. We're also here with a nice group, I'm looking forward to the first sprint battle.

This Sunday, the second stage will bring the peloton from Caleruega to Burgos in 166.7 kilometer without any noteworthy difficulty and to a finish for sprinters at the end of a 1,5 kilometer straight line.
